No need to lust after it, or smuggle bacon in. Of all the folks in the world, the Poles know best what to do with a pig. My grandmother used to fly to CA from NY with bags of kielbasa when I was a child - and the pork, kraut and potato dishes will replace an old pot roast any day. I am envious - so enjoy! I plan to visit Istanbul in July and will need to have a long shopping list again. Yay!

@Joyce, that is too funny! I've learned a few basic Polish words. I'll be taking lessons in August or Sept. You are welcome to come visit us if you can! I've got the room. xo

@Mary, thanks for the very kind words and encouragement! Overall, I'm an optimistic person and Warsaw is starting to grow on me. It's sooo much easier to get around and I'm loving the food scene! I know you will miss Istanbul, as I do almost every day, but for you, it is still a short plane ride away. :) I loved living the expat life with you in Turkey and will do the same while you are in Poland. My mom's folks are from Wielkopolska, closer to Germany, but it is a smaller country than Turkey and you will be able to travel around easily. Gdansk, Wroclaw, Krakow, Czestochowa: lots to see and.....eat!! Those Poles know how to do that very well! Much joy to you as you discover it all - and best of luck with your journey towards your newest creation :)

Meryem abla (Mary Bachmayer)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6104067274494549802.post-36399004421241429912013-05-22T09:03:55.090-04:002013-05-22T09:03:55.090-04:00omg...omg...you are the luckiest person in the wor...omg...omg...you are the luckiest person in the world! i have never been to poland but i am polish and i am dying to go there. my family was from warsaw so i will be thrilled to visit it through you. i just got a polish dvd so i hope to learn some words from you as you learn them. that was a wonderful tribute to istanbul. poland....ahhhh!jaz@octoberfarmhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17249328159454897124noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6104067274494549802.post-31523764024299463352013-05-22T08:04:06.491-04:002013-05-22T08:04:06.491-04:00This was such a nice tribute to Istanbul.....also ...This was such a nice tribute to Istanbul.....also my favourite city and reminds me of NYC.
