This weekend, we our discovering the sites near Pamukkale. Our first stop was at Aphrodisias - about 38 km northwest of Tavas. The site is well worth a stop if you are in the area. We drove from Bodrum, and the ride took a little over 3 hours.

Aphrodisias is the best-preserved example of a Hellenistic civilization in Turkey. I think we took about 100 photos here alone. Just when I thought I couldn't be amazed at what else I might find in this country, these ruins did it for me.

Aphrodisias was recognized as a sacred sanctuary and was awarded special privileges that began with Julius Caesar and lasted through the end of the Roman Empire.

I'll have more to post soon, but tomorrow we head back to Bodrim to relax on the beach with our parents.
